The days of Sukkot 2009 In Kishinev Moldova

In Kishinev, the days of Sukkot were celebrated in the prayer hall of the synagogue. A large crowd of students among many people attended festive prayers and the reading and dancing of the Torah.

Given that a sukkah is not a permanent structure, it doesn’t offer much protection from the rain. However, despite a heavy rainstorm, many people participated in the Kiddush and meals in the Sukkah built near the Kishinev synagogue, and few other around the city.

Rabbi and Students Brutally Attacked in Moldova

(IsraelNN.com) A leading Moldovian community rabbi and his students were violently attacked Thursday by a gang of anti-Semites while on a camping and fishing trip in Panasesti, located in the Chisinau region of Moldova.

Panesesti is a thickly wooded area, located about 30 kilometers from Kishinev Airport. Romania borders the Republic of Moldova to the west, and the small country is surrounded on its other borders by Ukraine.

According to a source at the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS (former Soviet Union), the thugs also robbed the group.

Passover 2009 in Kishinev

Monday, April 6th, our first day in Kishinev, we went to the park in the center of the city, enjoying the green scenery and nice weather. While the people in the park were very calm, there was in a short distance away from us a demonstration going on questioning the accuracy of the results of the latest elections. We didn’t even know it was so serious. Damage to the parliament was severe. Many people were arrested and sentenced to many years in jail.

Despite the difficulties as a result of the global economy crisis,  tons of Matzos where distributed at the Chabad Jewish Community Kishinev, Moldova. Hundreds and hundreds of Jews stood in line to receive Matzo and food for the Passover holiday.  People took the opportunity to carry out the old tradition of selling the “chometz” before Passover .
