Renovations at Famous Rabbi’s Tomb in Balti

In the city of Balti, the tomb of the great Rabbi Yisrael Yoffe, who lived in the city hundreds of years ago, has been renovated.

The leaders of the Chabad community in Balti, Rabbi Yefim Weinstein and Rabbi Shimon Magalnick, handled this special project with the help of the Chabad Lubavitch Federation of Jewish Communities, which is run by the Chief Rabbi of Moldova, Rabbi Zalman Abelsky. The gravesite was renovated by the staff of the city’s burial society, which is run under the auspices of Moldova’s Chief Rabbinate. Many years ago, Balti was a stronghold of Chassidic Jewish life, and Rabbi Yoffe was one of its Chabad Rabbis.

Chabad supporters came to the gravesite especially from Kishinev to hold the first prayer services to take place at the newly renovated tomb, alongside the leaders of the Jewish Agency in Balti, and representatives of the Joint. The service received broad coverage in the media.
