Rabbi Tzion Michael Cohen, Chief Rabbi of Or Yehuda, visited the central Chabad synagogue in Chișinău. There, he met with local Jewish community members and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Axelrod, Chief Rabbi of Moldova. The warm and inspiring gathering left a deep impression on all participants.
Honoring a Legacy
Rabbi Cohen shared an emotional story about his name. He was named after Rabbi Michael Lipsker, a renowned emissary to Morocco. He highlighted Rabbi Lipsker’s dedication to spreading Torah and Judaism, emphasizing that his impact continues today.
Strengthening Jewish Education and Kosher Standards
During his visit, Rabbi Cohen toured the Jewish school. He spoke with students, offering them encouragement and blessings. Later, he explored the synagogue’s kitchen, which supplies most of the country’s kosher food.
He was impressed by the high level of kosher supervision and the commitment of Chabad emissaries. “The Rebbe of Lubavitch never forgets a single Jew,” he said with admiration. “Maintaining such strict kosher standards in a remote location shows the dedication of Chabad emissaries and their commitment to every Jew.”
A Meaningful Visit to the Mikvah
Rabbi Cohen concluded his visit at the newly built and beautifully designed women’s mikvah, the only one of its kind in the country. He recalled memories of his late mother, who served as a mikvah attendant with great devotion. She not only ensured the purity of Jewish women but also supported many families by offering guidance and encouragement. “A mikvah is not just for physical purification,” he said. “It strengthens spirituality and family life.”
Lasting Impact on the Community
Rabbi Cohen’s visit deeply moved the Jewish community in Moldova. They welcomed him warmly and found inspiration in his words. This meeting reinforced the strong bond between Chabad emissaries worldwide and Jewish communities everywhere. It also provided essential support for preserving and strengthening Jewish identity.
