As we approach Chanukah – let us not forget that there are many Jewish people in Kishinev and Moldova continue to experience great challenges in their attempts to support and sustain their lives and the lives of their children and families. Moldova Jews continue to face ongoing struggles in trying to provide food for their families, having access to medical care and attention, facing the daily obstacles and hurdles in trying to live productive lives can be overwhelming and impacts their physical, emotional and spiritual health and well being. The difficulties are even more intense for the many elderly people living in Moldova.
Living with these challenges, their strength, perseverance so rooted in faith and Jewish tradition continues to flourish, primarily attributed to Rabbi Zalman Abelsky OB”M and the establishment of Friends of Kishinev Jewry, an organization that since 1990 has been a source of hope and inspiration for thousands of individuals and families who live in Kishinev, Moldova. Today, Rabbi Zalman’s work is continued by his successor, Rabbi Yoseff Abelsky.
During the celebration of Chanukah, we ask you to reflect not only on your blessings but consider the persistent challenges that residents of Moldova endure and support Friends of Kishinev Jewry.
We are depending on friends like you to help support our work in Kishinev, Moldova to help fight poverty, hunger and promote human rights. Your contribution will be invaluable in enabling Friends of Kishinev Jewry to administer services and provide life saving supports that build up and improve the lives of residents who are the most vulnerable, fragile and in need.
Thank you for taking a part in continuing Rabbi Abelsky’s legacy.
