THE HOLIDAY OF LIBERATION
The Jews of Kishinev celebrated the Liberation holiday – 12th-13th of Tamuz, which are the days of the miraculous liberation of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson (Rebbe Rayatz), from Soviet torture chambers in 1928.
The Chassidim of Kishinev annually celebrate it with gathering, preparing delicious meal and singing niggunim.
Rav Shmuel Zalmanov spoke about the Rebbe Rayatz, about the story of the Rebbe’s arrest and the stages of his miraculous release. Rav Mendel Gotzel noted that the Rebbe showed us how to overcome spiritual darkness. Rav Mendel Axelrod emphasized how grateful we should be to the Rebbe and all the Jews who preserved the Torah in such difficult times.
