
On the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, the Jewish Community of Moldova organized a solemn ceremony in Chisinau. The event commemorated the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust and marked the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation.
Representatives of the government, international organizations, and honored guests, including Israeli Ambassador to Moldova Mr. Joel Leon, attended the event. Speakers paid tribute to the victims and stressed the importance of teaching younger generations about the Holocaust.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Axelrod, the Chief Rabbi of Moldova and Chisinau, led the audience in a Kadish prayer. He also called for a moment of silence to honor the memory of those who lost their lives.
Ambassador Joel Leon emphasized Israel’s dedication to preserving Holocaust memory and fighting antisemitism and racism. He also highlighted the responsibility of passing these lessons to future generations, ensuring a more tolerant world.
The ceremony underscored the international community’s commitment to Holocaust remembrance. It reminded all present of their shared duty to honor the victims and prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
