This year, just before Purim, the Chief Rabbinate of Moldova sent out a special letter to the Jewish communities in Kishinev explaining the meaning of the day and its commandments, and sending his good wishes to everyone.
Moldova’s most popular TV channel provided much coverage of the Purim festivities organized by Chabad in Kishinev.
Home visits were paid to dozens of elderly housebound women throughout Kishinev and the surrounding area. The women received menorahs and candles, food baskets, and doughnuts. The visits were organized by head shlicha Rebbitzen Abelsky, and the Chanukah gifts were sponsored by Ezrat Achim LeYahadut Moldova, run by Rabbi Zushe Abelsky.
The Jewish community of Kishinev had very beneficial guests in the past high holidays, Dr. Yael Volman and her family. Along with the Rebbetzin, Dr. Volman visited many Jewish seniors in their apartments, hospitals, and old-age homes.
