Chanukah, 1989: My parents, Rabbi and Mrs. Zalman Abelsky, arrived in Kishinev, Moldova.
At this stage in life, many people choose to relax, enjoy their families, and perhaps take extensive vacations. It is time to reap the rewards of their lives’ accomplishments.
An exhibition took place in Moldova’s capital city of Chisinau to raise the question of the situation of Moldova’s synagogues. 
Chabad of Kishinev was bustling with activity with the approach of Shavuos: Students from the local Jewish schools came to the Chabad Shul to see and learn up close what the Torah's about;

The main streets of Kishinev were closed off in order for the Central Lag Baomer procession to pass through ● The procession was proceeded by a Mitzva Tank flanked by jeeps ● Tzivos Hashem Rallies, bonfires and Lag Baomer Farbrengens ● All conducted by the Shliach and Cheif Rabbi of Moldova, Rabbi Zalman Abelsky●

On April 8, the 28th of Nissan a gathering dedicated to the memory of Kishinev Pogrom victims of 1903 was held near the Monument mounted in 2003 on the territory of the former Jewish cemetery.

Chabad of Moldova, under the directorship of Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, held a Model Matza Bakery with the help of some fresh arrived Yeshivah Students.

It’s not every day that you find shluchim who returned to the place they fled, but Rabbi Zalman and Rebbetzin Leah Abelsky did just that. Sixty years ago they escaped the clutches of the communists, made aliya, and raised a family. Thirty years later, they were back in Kishinev. This time, they were there on shlichus, with the Rebbe’s bracha. read more
